After doing some fantasy car searching, I stumbled across a BMW Z3 3.0i in the clownshoe body style. I always thought that the clownshoe was only available as an M... or am I wrong? Either way, the want on this one is very high

'Twas available as a regular Z3 wagon-hatch-thingy.

That is freaking incredible. I have solved my own argument of "I want a Miata/S2k but they're not practical"

It was offered as a Z3 Coupe, and a Z3 M-Coupe.
Z4 Coupe was offered as a 3-door coupe and an M-Coupe as well.
Basically it is the difference as to whether it had the normal 3-series engine, or the M3-derived engine, and the ///M car sports package stuff.

Nope, I have seen a few of the regular clownshoes.

because i'm sure there's a clownshoe non-M among all the skylines. I think this would be GT4

As others pointed out, they did (although it seems like they are even MORE rare), but the pic you uploaded is of the M variety. Easiest way to tell? Look at the "gills"

Looks a lot like Nogaro Blue, even though it's a BMW

Most of the ones they sold were Ms. The price difference wasn't that high.

also, non-M cars have the plates in the bumper. M cars have the plate on the rear decklid.
M cars also have staggered wheel sizes and the rears are deep dish

I have made it clear to myself that I won't be happy with my next car unless it's absolutely perfect, so I search cars.com within all miles. It seems that the non-M cars can be found for a reasonable price

That car is just an abomination to my eyes for some reason. It looks great until the rear 1/3. It's like they bought a bunch of surplus GTI rear ends and glued them on to the roadster.
Reminds me of this:
